Kelaniya

Kelaniya is situated approximately 7km east of Colombo along the Colombo – Kandy road. Kelaniya is one of the main cities of the Gampaha district which is located towards the south of the Colombo district.

1.Kelaniya Raja MahaViharaya

Kelaniya Raja MahaViharaya is renowned as a sacred place where Lord Buddha and 500 Arahats once visited on the Vesak Day of the Buddha era 2531 as per the invitation of King Maniakkhika. Today the temple stands where Lord Buddha preached Dharma. KelaniViharaya is located about 6 km away from Colombo and prominence as one of the temples that stands out among other temples for its most exquisite sculptor arts. It has a history of over 2500 years and was renovated by number of kings. Kelaniya Raja MahaViharaya is a significant place in the Buddhism History of Sri Lanka. 2.Water World Kelaniya

Visit the only Public Aquarium in Sri Lanka! Water world, Sri Lanka is situated on the banks of the Kelani river with an area of 5 acres. It is a home to over 500 varieties of fish and invertebrates.
